The results of Kaggle's 2018 Data Science Survey are in and Python appears to be on top.

Kaggle is the world's largest community of data science and machine learning practitioners/enthusiasts. Kaggle is owned by Google, Inc., hosts online competitions, serves as a data platform, and provides a cloud-based sandbox for data science work.

In recent years, Kaggle has conducted a survey of users to determine trends in the practice of data science. The results of the 2018 survey can be found at https://www.kaggle.com/sudhirnl7/data-science-survey-2018 (or by googling "2018 Kaggle Data Science Survey." The 2018 results are based on nearly 24,000 responses. Some interesting insights of the survey results are:

Jupyter/IPython was reported to be the most widely used IDE (18.24% of respondents), followed by RStudio (11.07%).
With respect to programming language preference, 28.59% of respondents reported a preference for the Python programming language, followed by SQL (15.05%) and R (12.17%).
When respondents were asked which programming language they would recommend to aspiring data scientists, over 75% reported that they would recommend Python.

The survey results seem to suggest that the Python programming language is the most popular choice for individuals practicing data science.
